Kelton Michaels
: ((Okay, so where/how is Travis getting ahold of Kelton? Dropping by his office, calling him, something else?))Travis Kennedy: ((Let's start with calling.))
Kelton Michaels: ((Beaut)) *Click* "Hello?"
Phone: BVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVET! ((phone ring))
Phone: "Hi, it's Travis."
Kelton Michaels: "Mr. Kennedy. Good evening." His voice is warm, polite. "How are you?"
Phone: "Rushed and panicked. Let's meet. Your house?" His voice is low and his words are crisp.
Kelton Michaels: A brief pause. "Yes, my house would be fine. Allow me to direct you to it." He starts to give the directions.
Phone: Trav interupts immediately, "I know where it is and I don't trust this phone. How long will it take you to get there?"
Kelton Michaels: Another pause, and his voice is a touch guarded, though still warm enough. "Ten minutes."
Phone: "Good. I'll be fifteen. Talk to you then."
Kelton Michaels: And he
heads to his home. It is in Forest Hills Gardens, a mock Tudor village. The place was
originally built as housing for the urban poor, but the rich found the area and bought it
up for themselves. The home is modest for it's surroundings...single-level, about 2500
square feet, attractive without being lavish.
Phone: Travis arrives in a cab a block away, and
then walks the rest of the distance to Kelton's front door. He's moving quite fast.
Kelton Michaels: The
door opens as Travis approaches, and Kelton is there. He nods to the other man, holding
the door open for him. "Please, come in."
Phone: He nods and steps inside, "Thank
you." He has a green notebook in his hands.
Kelton Michaels: The
inside is sparsely furnished...looks like he's just moved in. But there is a servicable
amount of furniture and decoration, tasteful and understated in style, done in browns,
greys, and greens. He leads Travis into the living room, limping his way to a leather
couch and seating himself. "Please, have a seat."
Phone: He takes off his shoes at the door and then
stiffly walks over to sit in another chair or couch. "Thank you."
Travis Kennedy: (I suppose now if a good time to
change nicks. *G*)
Kelton Michaels: "You're
welcome." He nods. "Now, what can I do for you, Mr. Kennedy?"
Travis Kennedy: The notebook he sets down on the
floor in front of him. He glances around nervously, opening his senses up to the area
around him, "Is it safe to talk here?" (aware+per)
Travis Kennedy: 6,4,1,5,
Travis Kennedy: He's much too nervous to get a sense
of anything, today.
Kelton Michaels: He
nods. "Absolutely. Feel free to discuss anything here. My home is quite heavily
warded, as you can imagine."
Travis Kennedy: He leans forward toward Kelton,
"How about my mind? Can you tell if it's untampered with?"
Kelton Michaels: He
nods. "A rudimentary Ars Mentis scan is not outside my capabilities. Please,
relax." He closes his eyes, beginning to speak in Latin...the words, oddly, are that
of a Hindu mantra.
Travis Kennedy: He tries to relax, he really does,
but it's probably a clumsy attempt. Trav needs to learn some zen.
Kelton Michaels: The
chanting continues, calm and confident, as he reaches out to touch Travis's mind. ((Making
3 rolls, 1 WP point for last roll))
Kelton Michaels: 6,1,3,6,5,
Kelton Michaels: 2,8,7,2,3,
Kelton Michaels: 9,10,4,7,10,
Kelton Michaels: ((Per+Aware,
of course))
Travis Kennedy: 2,2,10,7,
Kelton Michaels: Travis
feels the magic build, and the other man's mind reaches out, searching Travis's pattern
over. Slowly, the magic recedes, and Kelton opens his eyes. "You are untampered with,
Mr. Kennedy."
Travis Kennedy: He glances around, Probably no
bugs, because he has just moved in. Probably. He bows his head, relieved, "That's
good. Thank you." He looks up at Kelton with tired eyes, "Master Kelton, may I
borrow a certain papyrus that you have in your possession?"
Kelton Michaels: He
raises an eyebrow. "What papyrus, and for what purposes?"
Travis Kennedy: "A papyrus created by a Dr.
Peter Geren. Do you know a man named Xu, aka Fausto, and perhaps also known as Trevor
Dunne, although that last name hasn't been confirmed yet."
Kelton Michaels: ((Int+Alert
to remember))
Kelton Michaels: 2,7,10,3,7,5,10,
Kelton Michaels: "Fausto."
He frowns a little, nodding. "I do seem to remember the man. What does he have to to
with Peter Geren?"
Travis Kennedy: "I'm not sure, but it would
probably help if I started at the beginning. I need to figure out why Xu wants the
papyrus, and whether or not I should give it to him. The choice very well could mean my
life." He leans back into the chair and ponders that for a moment.
Kelton Michaels: He
leans back on the couch, nodding. "By all means, please do."
Travis Kennedy: He crosses his arms in front of him,
"Well, a week or so back, maybe more because I've lost track of days and nights, I
was recruited by a massassa that I trust to find a girl who had a magical artifact-"
He takes a breath, "-that could destroy the world somehow. Some people were after the
artifact, and I decided to get involved to gather info on the situation and see if we
should intervene." He looks up to see if Kelton caught all that.
Kelton Michaels: The
mention of massassa gives him a slight frown, but otherwise, he remains calm.
"All right. What have you discovered? Do you know whart this artifact is?"
Travis Kennedy: "Yes, the Cup of Set. So I
found the girl, and it turned out she's an Egyption study that has learned how to lay a
Ward. We found her, and she is now in the Concerto. She is being chased by an evil mummy
that wears the skins of humans, and commands corrupt spirits. So Ita, Jeremy, and Xu
decided to destroy the evil thing."
Kelton Michaels: "Ita.
Ita McNairee?"
Travis Kennedy: "Yes, the massassa. So with the
help of a Technocracy agent, we teleported an exploding cow into its home and blew it and
its friends to bits. Then I was betrayed by Xu and the Technobitch, and the Technos can
now probably identify my brand of magic."
Kelton Michaels: "I
see. And the Technocrat?"
Travis Kennedy: "Is named Sonja Kabari, and
evil to the core. She keeps threatening me with various things, and is quite annoying, but
I really don't think she's a threat... yet. Xu is controlling her somehow, and he seems to
consider me a friend. Which is nice." He contemplates that for a moment.
Kelton Michaels: "She
is a Technocrat." He says it, as if that's all that need be said on the matter of her
evilness. "So they have detonated the mummy. What else?"
Travis Kennedy: "So Xu suddenly phones me up
and asks me to find a certain papyrus by Docter Geren, and wants me to retrieve it for
him. We have to figure out why he wants it, and whether or not we should give it to
him."
Kelton Michaels: "And
this would be the papyrus in my possession, I assume."
Travis Kennedy: He nods, "Yes."
Kelton Michaels: He
gets to his feet with effort, picking his cane back up and limping out of the room.
"Come with me, Travis. What do you know of the Cult of Isis, the Children of Osiris,
or the Followers of Set?"
Travis Kennedy: He pushs himself up quickly,
following in step with the old man. "Very little."
Kelton Michaels: ((Well,
old being mid-30's... *G*)) "The Cult of Isis is an ancient Egyptian tradition of
hedge wizards. Limited, as all hedge wizards are, but they had the blessing of some
powerful Higher Umbrood. And they created a ritual known as the Spell of Life."
Travis Kennedy: ((That's like... all of ten years
older than the boy-child.)) Travis the Life mage is intrigued.
Kelton Michaels: "This
Spell had a particular component that facilitated it's use, known as the Cup of Ra.
History calls it many things...the Cup of Osiris, or of Set. The Vessel of said god.
Chalice...what have you. It had the ability to restore the dead to life, and to remove the
massassa curse." He moves along with him, through the house, into his study.
Travis Kennedy: He follows him into his study
quietly behind him. "Powerful."
Kelton Michaels: "Indeed."
He nods, moving to select a couple books out and set them down on the table. "You
have heard of it before, of course, though under different names and in different
cultures."
Travis Kennedy: He nods. He has studied this occult
business for about four years now, after all.
Kelton Michaels: ((You
can roll me an Int+Occult to see if you can figure out what he's talking about.))
Travis Kennedy: 10,9,9,2,2,5,7,
Kelton Michaels -> Travis Kennedy: ((Well, the glaringly obvious one that pops out is the Holy
Grail. Similarities between Osiris and Christ are well, WELL-documented, most notably his
torture, death and resurrection. Cup of Osiris = Holy Grail? Not a stretch. There is also
the Cauldren of Bran, historically linked to Grail myths, which was a cauldron in which
bodies could be placed, which would then be restored to life.))
Travis Kennedy: "Holy Grail, Cauldren of Bran,
and so on." He walks over to look at the titles of the books.
Kelton Michaels: "Exaclty."
The books he's selected are all elated to the Egyptian mythos. He opens the top, a fairly
new book by Peter Geren himself entitled "Khem's Black Eye: Akhenaton and Monotheism
in Ancient Egypt" and starts flipping through. "The Cup of Osiris, obviously,
has been highly sought after."
Travis Kennedy: A nod and a smile. "It is
highly sought after, apparrently, sir."
Kelton Michaels
: A chuckle. "Yes, apparently." He flips to a sketch picture in the book of the cup, and rotates it for Travis to see. "That is Geren's depiction of the Cup. We can assume it to be reasonably accurate, if he did in fact have it."Travis Kennedy: "Thank you." He nods, and
turns his body slightly toward the door.
Kelton Michaels: He
heads out of the door, leading Travis to the front door.
Travis Kennedy: He slips on his shoes with a swift
motion, "I'll be in touch." He lets himself out silently, and walks off down the
street.
Kelton Michaels: "Be
well." He shuts the door behind Travis, and heads back to the living room.
Travis Kennedy: ((Thanks for the rp!))
Kelton Michaels: ((You
bet!))
